Sacrificial Love

I once was given a high privilege by the Lord Jesus to witness a man of God acting in pure Christlike sacrificial love. This man would one day become the love of my life and the man I will marry. In that moment, what I saw in this man changed me. This image will forever be seared in my heart.

I was at a Christian evangelism conference and every morning breakfast was provided by the church. On that particular morning, they were serving pancakes. People were lingering around, concerned about getting their breakfast, getting their fill, their satisfaction, their need met.

The speaker made an announcement that whatever was in the serving plate, that’s all the pancakes they had left for the entire crowd of people, and it wasn’t much nor would it adequately feed everyone. Even with this, everyone still got their fill, not showing any concern for others getting enough. One man piled up his plate with about 10 pancakes oozing with syrup.

Then, I noticed something. A man on the other side of the breakfast table, quietly grabbing his pancakes. Except, he grabbed the burnt one at the bottom, taking the least desired pancake while the rest of the people piled up their plates with food.

My eyes couldn’t believe it. I was watching Christ through this man and it was glorious and beautiful. It was like watching the pages of scripture unfold before me. It was so pure, so holy, so beautiful, so lovely, so sacrificial.

Nobody noticed him, nobody appreciated that they were being thought of by him as more important than himself. And he didn’t care if not a single person noticed, because he was doing it for his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. But I noticed, and it will forever be with me.

God gave me a wonderful gift that day. He gave me the man I would come to love with all of my heart, the man who will one day be my husband. God gave me the man who is so incredibly godly, full of the Holy Spirit, a true servant of God – a man who I trust completely and look up to in every single way. God gave me the man who is full of love for Christ, and possesses true sacrificial deep love for me. He gave me the man who would be my spiritual leader and head, one who fulfills his true role as a man and does so amazingly beautifully. God gave me the man who would love me so fully and perfectly, the way I have never been loved before nor ever will aside from the glorious God Himself. God gave me the most incredible gift that day, He gave me so much abundantly more in this man that I could have ever thought up or dreamed of or prayed for. I love this man with with everything in me and he loves me the way Christ loves His bride.

His selflessness with the pancake is true Christlike godly Christian love. Sacrifice. Just as Christ sacrificed His life for us, we as His children are to walk in sacrificial love, letting our lives and bodies be a sacrifice unto God. Just as Christ was a servant and washed His disciples feet, are we to be servants and wash each others feet. We are to walk in humility, making others more important than ourselves. That is true godly love, and I am blessed to belong to a man who exudes this love.

“If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.” John‬ ‭13:14-15‬

I fell madly in love with this man and one glorious day I will have the honour of being his bride. ❤
