Proverbs 29:25
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”
Searching and longing for the approval of mere imperfect and flawed human beings is a snare, a trap, and a recipe for disaster. It can be tempting to desire approval of others, because we’re physically able to see them face to face. We can see their reactions, hear their opinions, and we can be rejected and accepted by people. But ultimately, the only approval we need is God’s approval, and if we have His approval, we have everything we could ever need. If we search for approval and acceptance from others, then these people become authoritative in our lives when Jesus should be the highest authority in every aspect and every area. Jesus is our Lord and our sole and main focus as we walk in this dry and weary world is to please Him and Him above all else, no matter who may disapprove. If the Lord approves us, it doesn’t matter if all the kings and all the governors and anyone else disapproves of us because God accepts us. He’s our Maker, our Saviour, and our Creator.
It can be hard sometimes, and we will be tested in various season: will we follow man’s fleeting thoughts and opionions which can be so easily in error, or follow the LORD who is perfect in every single way? The more we trust in Him and abide in Him the less the approval, thoughts, and opinions matter of others. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care, it just means we don’t live by their opinion, we live for Christ and His Word and His guidance, no matter if the world be against us (and they will). If God Himself accepts us, it doesn’t matter who in the world rejects us.
Ephesians 1:4-6
“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”
