Jehovah Witnesses claim “Jehovah God” refers to only the Father. They deny Jesus Christ is the “The Alpha and the Omega” in this article we will seek to identify if Christ is “The Alpha and the Omega” or not.
If we examine the context of the verses in Revelation we can come to a clear understanding who “The Alpha and the Omega” is. Reading the surrounding text is paramount in understanding a passage. Let’s focus on Revelation 1:8, I’ll include the text before and after highlighting the verse in focus.
v1 is speaking of this individual who’s (1) coming in the clouds, that’s the first point to keep in mind (2) every eye shall see Him, and (3) “and they [also] which pierced him:”
The question we have to ask are there other scriptures which speak of this individual coming in the clouds? We sure do let’s take a look.
On 4 separate occasions the Lord Jesus referred to Himself as the one coming in the clouds, the cloud rider which is a Yahweh reference.
Mark 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
Here we have 4 verses in-which the Lord Jesus says they will see the Son of man (Jesus Christ) coming in the clouds. Also it’s a well known fact Jesus Christ was pierced when He was on the cross.
John 19:37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
Ok, so we’ve dealt with verse 7, let’s move onto verse 8. While reading from v7 to v8 there’s a continuous narrative, the one who’s coming in the clouds speaks and says “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”
Here the speaker says (1) I am Alpha and Omega (2) the beginning and the ending says who? The Lord in the Greek it’s κύριος used not the Tetragrammaton which is where we get the name Jehovah from. (3) which is and which was and which is to come.
Let’s work backwards “which is and which was and which is to come” as we established Jesus Christ is the one coming not the Father. Also which is speaks to the deity of Christ, which was points to the death of Christ and which is to come of course is referring to when Christ second coming in the future. And lastly, the same speaker says He’s the Alpha and Omega.
v9 is without a doubt speaking of Jesus Christ not the Father. (1) I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, (2) the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, (3) for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
John the apostle says he’s a companion or partaker in tribulation. Jesus Christ mentions that believers will have tribulation in this world.
Jesus Christ is called the King of kings and Lord of lords, the King of the kingdom is Christ; He’s the One who has established an everlasting kingdom sitting on the throne of David.
Lastly, Jesus Christ is called the Word of God in the Gospel of John.
John 1:1, 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. … And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
And the Lord Jesus said believers would go through difficult times for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Jehovah Witnesses try to twist these verses to say that the Alpha and Omega is not Jesus Christ but “Jehovah.” JW’s always refer to the Father as “Jehovah” only therefore they try to diminish the deity of Christ. As it was just proven through methodically going through the verses we see plenty of proof that the Lord Jesus is the Alpha and Omega spoken of in Revelation.
