To Sin or Not to Sin Comparing Christianity and Islam

We always hear from Muslims how Christians and Muhammadans worship the same God. I thought to compare some teachings between the two and see how they compare. This article touches upon how the Bible teaches believers

Christianity

The Bible explains that we are not to run to commit sin, we shouldn’t allow others to entice us to sin. In the Old Testament God (Yahweh) says the penalty for killing another man is capital death (stoning), therefore, if someone committed such an act has forfeited their own life (Genesis 4:15; Exodus 21:12; Exodus 21:14-15; Exodus 21:20; Exodus 21:22; Exodus 21:23-25).

In the book of Proverbs written by Solomon, we’re told in the first chapter, not to allow sinners to entice us to commit sins. The verses in the following colour are commands from God for us to obey. And the other colour is what sinners say to entice others to partake in evil deeds.

Proverbs 1:8-19

Notice the sinner invites the person saying “come with us” and they thirst to shed blood “let us lay wait for blood.” They do this in the darkness to conceal their wickedness saying “let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause.” These murderous people want to “swallow them up alive as the grave,” their greed is all that matters to these killers “we shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil.” They entice to “cast in thy lot among us” it’s all about the money for them.[1]

God says do not follow the path they are going down, to “refrain thy foot,” for Christians the Bible instructs us to not do such evil things. But this is not the same when we go to the Qur’an.

Islam

In comparison, Muslims are commanded to kill in the Qur’an. They are told to wait, ambush and slaughter non-Muslims, how can Muhammad be a “mercy” for mankind and he’s commanding people to murder? The ayat (verse) we’re referring to is found in Surat al-Tawbah.

Surat al-Tawbah [9:5]

Notice Muhammad says he will let them live if these people who are being hunted and killed by the Muslims “repent,” they are then forced to pay “zakah”[2] alms (money). Comparing these two passages exposes Muhammad as a false prophet.

Going deeper into their own sources such as Ibn Kathir one of Islam’s biggest scholars. Here’s what he has to say about this particular verse.

(So when the Sacred Months have passed…), meaning, `Upon the end of the four months during which We prohibited you from fighting the idolators, and which is the grace period We gave them, then fight and kill the idolators wherever you may find them.’ Allah’s statement next, (then fight the Mushrikin wherever you find them), means, on the earth in general, except for the Sacred Area, for Allah said, (And fight not with them at Al-Masjid Al-Haram, unless they fight you there. But if they attack you, then fight them. )﴿2:191﴾ Allah said here, (and capture them), executing some and keeping some as prisoners, (and besiege them, and lie in wait for them in each and every ambush), do not wait until you find them. Rather, seek and besiege them in their areas and forts, gather intelligence about them in the various roads and fairways so that what is made wide looks ever smaller to them. This way, they will have no choice, but to die or embrace Islam,

Ibn-Kathir Al-Qur’an Tafsir [Surah 9. At-Tauba . Ayah 5]

This clearly is not a message from the true God (Yahweh) found in the Bible, He doesn’t command for believers to hunt down unbelievers and kill them. We know that Muslims will cite passages in the Old Testament when God commanded them to go into the land and kill the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites etc (Numbers 21:2-3Deuteronomy 20:17Joshua 6:1721).

God in the Bible always had specific reasons for His commands to the Israelites, it was not random. In Numbers 21:1 we read that the Canaanites took some of the Israelites as prisoners. In response to king of Arad attacking Israel God delivered the Canaanites into the hands of Israel as a judgement against them.[3]

As for the Qur’anic verse above 9:5, the non-believers aren’t attacking the Muslims, taking a good look you will be hard-pressed to find the same situation. In fact, it’s the opposite, there was a treaty made with the polytheists. They (polytheists) were given 4 months to freely travel in the land and once the treaty is over Allah wants the Muslims to kill the polytheists. There are the proceeding verses leading up to the slaughter of unbelievers in 9:5.

Surat al-Tawbah [9:1-4]

Let’s make a few points with the above passage, please notice how Muhammad places himself on the same level as Allah saying “disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger.”

It’s simple to see that Allah is a demonic false god, actually Satan in disguise. Satan hates humanity and wants the human race to destroy itself and he will not stop until he accomplishes this goal.

Conclusion

How vastly different Yahweh and Allah are, in the Bible we read that God is love (1 John 4:8; 1 John 4:16). He is the source of love and, therefore, Christians are commanded to love our enemies (Matthew 5:44; Luke 6:27; Luke 6:35). In the Qur’an you will not find any passage that says Allah loves, or where Muhammad said to love your enemy; Islam is devoid of love because the false god of Islam is a god of hatred not love.

Allah spreads hatred and enmity “We have put enmity and hatred among them till the day of resurrection” [5:64]. In the Qur’an Allah also calls Christians and Jews (People of the book) the worst of creatures “They are the worst of creatures.” [98:6] and turned people into “apes and pigs” [5:60]. A quick study shows they are not the same. A challenge to all Muslims prove us wrong we are waiting.

Footnote

[1] Their cruelty. They thirst after blood, and hate those that are innocent and never gave them any provocation, because by their honesty and industry they shame and condemn them: “Let us therefore lay wait for their blood, and lurk privily for them; they are conscious to themselves of no crime and consequently apprehensive of no danger, but travel unarmed; therefore we shall make the more easy prey of them. And, O how sweet it will be to swallow them up alive!” v. 12. These bloody men would do this as greedily as the hungry lion devours the lamb. If it be objected, “The remains of the murdered will betray the murderers;” they answer, “No danger of that; we will swallow them whole as those that are buried.” Who could imagine that human nature should degenerate so far that it should ever be a pleasure to one man to destroy another! [2] Zakat (zakaat, zakah), or almsgiving, is one of the five pillars of Islam. This means that Zakat is mandatory for Muslims, along with the other four sacred pillars of prayer (salah), fasting (sawm), pilgrimage (Hajj) and belief in Allah and His Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) (shahadah). For every sane, adult Muslim who owns wealth over a certain amount – known as the Nisab – he or she must pay 2.5% of that wealth as Zakat. [3] The name Hormah is explained by means of the term ‘put under the ban’ (RSV ‘utterly destroy’; Hebrew root hrm); at one time Israel carried out the ‘ban’ in the region of Hormah with regard to the ‘cities’ that were there and their inhabitants, i,e. by killing and destroying they handed everything over to Yahweh as the real victor and owner of the booty of war (there is a similar aetiology of the name Hormah, but set in a quite different historical context, in Judg. 1.I7).
